CHA-kras
Have you noticed that we have areas in our body where energy continuously pulsates and flows, or attempts to flow? Have you ever had butterflies in your stomach? Or moments where you feel bursts of confidence in your core? Have you ever had a headache right between your brows? Do you ever have those feelings of... you know, arousal below? And these aren't just one offs. It can happen frequently or not very often but they've happened before, and they've happened enough, to where we've noticed these sensations in different parts of our body. These areas in our body where we feel these energies, or lack there of, are called chakras.
What are chakras? They're spinning wheels of energy that affect our physical, emotional, and spiritual being. There are seven main disks that begin from the base of the spine and ascend in a straight line up to the top of our heads: they are root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third-eye, and crown. They all have corresponding colors, elements, and crystals that not only represent but intensify their energies. This ascension upwards represents our levels of consciousness and the goal is to keep each energy portal unblocked and free flowing in order to access or activate our higher selves (our full divine conscious state.)
The root chakra is our 'I am,' our being, with this being said it's element is earth. It represents our sense of stability, security, grounding, and foundation; it's our ability to feel safe. The sacral chakra is our 'I feel;' it's element is water which represents the flowingness of emotion. This chakra's focus is our emotional relationship with ourself and others. It also represents our creativity and sexuality. The solar plexus chakra's element is fire. It's our 'I do.' It represents our will power, confidence, and sense of control over our own lives.
The heart chakra is our 'I love.' It's element is air which represents love's flowing energy. This is where the physical meets the spiritual. All of the chakras below this point represented physical aspects of our life and being. Love is where we truly begin to ascend and access the spiritual side of our life. This chakra represents the awakening of our spiritual awareness as well as love and compassion. The throat chakra is, of course, our 'I speak.' It's element is ether, or sound, and plainly put, it's responsible for our communication, in every sense of the word.
The next two are the highest energy points of this energy system. The third eye chakra is our 'I see.' This means it's our ability to tap into our intuition and see things beyond the surface level. It's element is light, asking us to let the light in and submerge ourselves fully in our spirituality, which leads us to our crown chakra. Our crown chakra is our 'I understand.' It's completion in a sense. Having done the work starting from earth, gaining grounding and security to eventually ascend through love to our divine consciousness, back to our pure being. That is this chakra's element: divine consciousness. This is when we are fully connected: to our purpose of creation and our higher selves. This is when we are full of bliss and have reached enlightenment.
So how do we keep these chakras unblocked? There's lots of things we can do: we can engage in spiritual work as well as physical work, from eating healthier foods and doing yoga to purchasing crystals and meditating. Once we've managed unblocking our chakras we access prana, or ultimate healing energy. Remember these are energy portals, our goal is to access the energy from the other side.
To wrap things up, here's some quick tips on chakras:
1. they're pronounced CHA-kras not SHA-kras. It's as if you're about to say Chuck but then you add 'kras' in place of 'ck.'
2. Many people have come to know that we have more than seven energy portals in our being and in this universe, however, these seven were a connected energy system discovered in Indian culture.
3. Chakra is Sanskrit for Cakra, meaning wheel or disk.
